Over & Back (2010)

Over & Back (2010) was a year-long investigative project involving international reporting in West Africa.

Matt Stevens and I documented the exploitation of young basketball players in Yaoundé, Cameroon from which former UCLA forwards Luc Richard Mbah Moute and Alfred Aboya emerged.

The four-day series was published in the Daily Bruin in October 2010, and involved a month-long reporting trip in Cameroon. Over & Back was funded by the Bridget O'Brien Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Over & Back was the Society of Professional Journalists' 2011 National Winner for In-Depth Reporting, Associated Collegiate Press’ Best of Show national first place multimedia package, Associated Collegiate Press' national first place 2011 Multimedia Story of the Year Award in Multimedia News, and the second place winner of the 2011 Robert Novak Collegiate Journalism Award.
