LAPD’s Mental Evaluation Unit

Lisa was homeless and living in downtown Los Angeles when LAPD’s Mental Evaluation Unit got involved with her in 2008. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she also battles severe alcoholism. Now, Lisa lives in a group home for women.

The LAPD’s Mental Evaluation Unit is a nationally renowned operation that’s credited with defusing potentially explosive encounters with people in the midst of a mental health crisis.
